Health System Strategic Plan

A large, healthcare provider turned to The Hill Group, Inc. to further develop a coordinated, comprehensive healthcare system that would integrate numerous organizations and assets, including community hospitals, research institutes, foundations, and specialty services.

Through a dynamic strategic planning process, The Hill Group assessed the external marketplace and the surrounding community’s healthcare status and needs, as well as the health system’s ability to deliver services to meet those needs. Our consultants engaged both internal and external stakeholders to develop a system-wide mission and long-term vision for the organization.

A benchmarking project was deployed where various healthcare providers across the United States were visited or researched. The results were utilized during an environmental scan of the healthcare landscape, both regionally and nationally.

The Hill Group facilitated a planning process which identified four strategic priority areas for the health system around care delivery, quality, systemness, and growth. Our team developed a planning process that cascaded throughout the enterprise, enabling operational units to execute the health system’s strategic plan through unit-level annual operating plans.

Hill Group consultants also assisted leadership in defining process approaches, service lines, and a tertiary-community care model that would help the health system to improve its service quality and profitability.

The aggressive, Hill Group-facilitated strategic plan became the foundation for the successful integration of a network of primary through tertiary services throughout a five-county region.
