Dr. Chris Brussalis is the Chairman of The Hill Group, Inc. He is also the ninth President of Point Park University, one of the most dynamic, urban universities in America, and Adjunct Professor of Management and Policy at the Heinz College, Carnegie Mellon University. Chris provided counsel in strategy to numerous Fortune 500 corporations, large institutions, and state governments, and he has extensive experience in public policy and economic development. While serving as a university president and chairman of The Hill Group, Chris provides limited oversight and advice in the following areas:

Dr. Chris W. Brussalis is Chairman of of The Hill Group, Inc., a premier provider of management counsel, specializing in strategy, operations, and measurement. The firm has served a wide range of private and public sector clients, including large corporations, institutions, nonprofits, and governments since 1953. Dr. Brussalis provided counsel to Fortune 500 corporations, large institutions including healthcare systems and universities, nonprofits, and governments.
Dr. Brussalis is the ninth president of Point Park University. He has served as university president since February 2023. Located in downtown Pittsburgh, Point Park University is one of the most dynamic, urban universities in America, offering over 100 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs. Dr. Brussalis is also Adjunct Professor of Management and Policy at the Heinz College of Carnegie Mellon University where he has been teaching at the graduate level for over 32 years.
As an engaged scholar-practitioner, Dr. Brussalis has technical knowledge, academic expertise, and practical experience in strategy, economic analysis, policy development, leadership, management, and corporate governance. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Allegheny College and earned advanced degrees in public and business administration with specializations in planning and economics and higher education administration from the University of Illinois and Northeastern University. Dr. Brussalis also has extensive experience and expertise in public policy and stakeholder participation processes and has testified as an expert witness on public policy, economic development, and planning issues. His teaching at the graduate level focuses on management, strategy, and policy analysis. He also has numerous publications and papers on management and policy issues to his credit. Dr. Brussalis served as chairman of the economic development faculty with the Tri-State Leadership Academy, housed at West Virginia University, where he developed curriculum and lectured on strategic planning, management, leadership, and economic development on behalf of the Kellogg Foundation.
Dr. Brussalis is very active on civic and corporate boards. He currently serves on the boards of the American Society for Competitiveness, Point Park University, Live Like Lou Foundation (Vice Chairman), and Leadership Pittsburgh (Past Chairman). Dr. Brussalis was appointed by Pennsylvania’s Governor to serve on the Commonwealth’s Small Business Council. Dr. Brussalis managed the New Idea Factory in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, the largest economic development transition effort of a metropolitan region in the history of the United States at the time. He is a graduate of Leadership Pittsburgh, a network of regional leaders and decision makers. Dr. Brussalis was selected as one of the Pittsburgh region’s top 20 “Changemakers” and “Fast Trackers” by the Pittsburgh Business Times, Pittsburgh Magazine’s top “40 Under 40,” and one of “Pittsburgh’s 50 Finest.” He received a Blue Citation from Allegheny College for a lifetime of outstanding service to his alma mater. Dr. Brussalis was also selected by the Secretary of the Air Force as one of 100 distinguished American leaders to attend the forty-seventh annual National Security Forum at the Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base.
Travis J. Deschamps
President & CEO
Travis Deschamps, President & CEO at The Hill Group, has guided organizations throughout his career to overcome challenges, capitalize on opportunities, and navigate a constantly-evolving market landscape. Prior to joining The Hill Group, Travis led the development and execution of a new strategic plan for CardiacAssist, Inc., as Chief Operating Officer. With Travis’ hands-on leadership, CardiacAssist successfully reversed declining revenues to achieve average annual revenue growth of 30% over the course of 5 years and facilitated the sale of the business to LivaNova PLC for $250 million.
Travis is an American Society for Quality (ASQ) certified Six Sigma Black Belt, and he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Notre Dame and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Carnegie Mellon University with concentrations in Strategy, Marketing, Organizational Behavior, Information Systems, and Entrepreneurship. Travis Deschamps, President & CEO at The Hill Group, has guided medical device companies throughout his career to overcome challenges and fully capitalize on market opportunities while successfully navigating a constantly evolving healthcare landscape.
Travis began his career with The Hill Group more than 20 years ago as a Project Analyst after completing an undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Notre Dame. While at The Hill Group, he led multiple client engagements and earned an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University with concentrations in Strategy, Marketing, Organizational Behavior, Information Systems and Entrepreneurship. In 2005, Travis joined the Performance Excellence Center at MEDRAD, earning Six Sigma Black Belt certification through the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and acting as an internal process improvement consultant before transitioning into a Marketing leadership role within the Cardiovascular business unit.
In 2010, Travis joined CardiacAssist – a struggling medical device company facing declining revenues and an empty product pipeline – to develop and execute a new strategic plan for growth, holding various leadership roles with escalating responsibility before becoming Chief Operating Officer in 2015. With Travis’ hands-on leadership, CardiacAssist (now doing business as “TandemLife”) successfully developed and launched eight new product lines, reversed declining revenues to achieve average annual growth of 30% from 2014 onward, and accomplished an attractive shareholder exit through the sale of the business to LivaNova PLC in April 2018. After the acquisition, Travis continued to lead the business within LivaNova, achieving continued growth to over $50 million in annual revenue while ensuring the successful integration of TandemLife into the parent company.
In September 2022, Travis re-joined The Hill Group to bring his unique combination of scientific and business acumen to its clients along with 20 years of subject matter expertise in Strategic Planning, Research & Development, Sales & Marketing, Regulatory & Quality Affairs and Healthcare Economics.

Chief Operating Officer

Daniel L. DeMarco
Vice President & General Counsel
Dan DeMarco, Vice President and General Counsel for The Hill Group, provides leadership as a versatile and experienced member of the team and oversees human resources activities. As General Counsel, Dan advises The Hill Group on legal affairs, provides legal representation, and administers contracts. Although The Hill Group cannot provide legal advice, Dan provides insight to clients in the following areas:

Dan DeMarco is Vice President and General Counsel for The Hill Group, Inc. In the capacity of Vice President he provides leadership as a versatile and experienced member of the team and oversees human resources activities. As General Counsel, Dan advises The Hill Group on legal affairs, provides legal representation, analysis of legal issues, and administers contracts.
Dan is an Assistant Professor at Point Park University. He teaches undergraduate courses in the Criminal Justice and Intelligence Studies Program and graduate courses at the Graduate Program in Criminal Justice Administration, School of Adult and Professional Studies. Dan’s coursework focuses on legal ethics, constitutional and criminal procedures, criminal law, and public policy. Dan develops curriculum for these courses and participates in decision-making around curriculum development for the criminal justice program as a whole. Dan is also an instructor for the Local Government Academy and serves as a guest lecturer annually at the Heinz School at Carnegie Mellon University. He is a former instructor at the Kaplan Career Institute in Pittsburgh. In addition to his responsibilities at The Hill Group and Point Park, he serves as Commissioner of the First Ward of the Township of Ross in Allegheny County. He was first elected to the office in November 1999 and began his first term on the Board of Commissioners January 2000. He was re-elected to a second four-year term in November 2003, and a third four-year term in November 2007. Dan currently serves as President of the Board.
Dan is a graduate of Allegheny College and Duquesne University School of Law. Dan serves as the Vice President of the Board of Trustees of the Northland Public Library. His memberships include Leadership Pittsburgh Class of XVII and the Allegheny County Bar Association.

Mike Batchelor transformed The Erie Community Foundation from a quiet and reactive grant maker into a recognized regional leadership organization focused on access to health care, workforce training, downtown revitalization, and economic opportunity for all. During his 31-year tenure as CEO, he increased assets from $20 million to $340 million and named endowment funds from 53 to 900. He led coalitions that established a School Based Health Care Center, expanded Magee Women’s Research Institute from Pittsburgh to Erie, and created Pennsylvania’s first new community college in the last 40 years.
